The oldest Croatian settlement
If you like exploring historic sites and are wondering where in Croatia to rent a villa, Vis Island is a perfect place for you. From the town of Vis and its port, to military bases from the Yugoslav era and thrilling stories about them, all the way to the popular Komiža, believed to have gotten its name from the Latin Com Issa (next to Issa), many interesting activities await you in Vis.
Issa was founded by Greek colonists from the island of Syracuse around 397 BC and has quickly become an important trade port. Archaeologists uncovered artifacts such as statues, amphoras, and coins from the ancient period. During the Roman Empire, island infrastructure was improved, and roads, spas, and villas were built. A lot of the beautiful Roman mosaics have been preserved, and you can enjoy them today.
Perfect for lovers of active vacations
Vis is surrounded by dozens of beautiful beaches and more than 110 diving sites. Divers from all parts of the world come during the summer to explore ancient sailboats, warship wrecks, and underwater caves. One of the most famous caves in the Adriatic, and also the most significant attraction of Vis, is the Blue Cave on Biševo. Here you will fall in love with the incredible color of the water created by sunlight reflection.
Other attractions worth visiting during your stay include Medvidina Cave, once home to the Mediterranean monk seal, now an extremely endangered species, as well as the cove of Stiniva – a magnet for divers from around the world. This cove has an equally beautiful but small beach that has been named the most beautiful in Europe more than once. For a more relaxed day, we recommend Prirovo beach, just 500m from the villa, as well as Stončica, one of the rare sandy beaches on Vis Island.
