Old Issa
Old Issa is an archaeological site on the island of Vis that testifies to the rich history and significance of this area during the ancient period. Issa was founded by Greek colonists from Syracuse around 397 BC and soon became an important commercial and maritime center. The city had all the characteristics of a Greek polis, including an agora, temples, and a theater, and was known for producing wine and ceramics.
Adriatic Sea and Underwater World
The waters around Vis are among the clearest in the Adriatic. They hide reefs, blue corridors of light, and more than 110 diving sites. Here you can explore ancient shipwrecks, underwater caves, and exciting marine life. From the famous Blue Cave on Biševo to secluded coves accessible only by boat, every swim leads you to discovering a hidden world.
Fields and Vineyards
Vis is known for its unspoiled nature and fertile fields where local families have grown olives and grapes for hundreds of years. The island is famous for unique varieties like Vugava and Plavac Mali, wines with a rich Mediterranean character. Don’t miss your chance to try them.
Town of Vis
The town of Vis blends ancient heritage with a relaxed coastal atmosphere. Walk along the waterfront lined with cafés, explore the remains of Greek Issa and Roman baths, or visit the small archeological museum. From the port, hidden alleys lead uphill to beautiful viewpoints overlooking the bay. It’s the perfect place to enjoy fresh seafood and local wine.
